Just the right time of the year to observe the gannets on Motutara Island in the Muriwai Regional Park. At the beginning of November, the Senior Syndicate visited the park with the focus on observing birds as this was our current topic. The children enjoyed walking the Takapu (Gannet) track and spent time on the platforms observing the behaviour of the gannets. They were particularly interested in how the gannets looked after their babies. After lunch there was time to build sand sculptures before coming back to school. A super field trip enjoyed by everyone! |

The Pasifika/Cultural Group took part in the Multicultural Festival at Corban’s Arts Centre in November. Our items included a traditional welcome chant with Emilie Collis as lead caller. She was very impressive. The kaparima and ura pau girls remembered most of their choreography and lit up the stage with their smiles and moves. Nikola Vikena did an outstanding job leading the drumming and playing the ukulele. He certainly knows his stuff! Our Indian, Tongan and Samoan groups performed beautifully, each in their own unique style. It was wonderful to have such huge support from parents and the excellent tutelage from Mrs. Tariau. The Maurakau Group performed alongside the Pasifika Group and were trained by Matua Rene. Everyone was impressed by their volume and the crispness of their moves. |
