School Newsletter - 22 February 2012 |
|
Kia Ora, greetings to everyone.
The Board of Trustees last night resolved to seek quotes for the fencing and entrance way to the side carpark. This will make a huge improvement to the school. We also discussed many other interesting issues around staff and board development and goals for 2012. There will be a lot happening at school this year and we look forward to these exciting developments in moving our school, and most importantly our pupils, forward. Please keep yourselves well informed by reading the newsletters thoroughly, pop into the school and get along to the various meetings and events. We know that everyone is so busy 24/ 7 these days but to take an active healthy interest in your local school is not only good for your child but for the school and local community as a whole. Thank you to all those parents who filled out the Travelwise survey. We had an excellent response. We will be reporting back on this survey after analysis.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Our first session in religious education is on March the 7th. All students are expected o attend UNLESS no bible is stated on their enrolment form or a signed letter is given with a genuine reason why the student is excused from this session. What is Christian Religious Education? (Previously bible in schools) It is a learning to understand and appreciate the beliefs by which people live, as an aid to the development of student’s own beliefs and values. A team of Churches Education Commission (CEC) trained and accredited teachers come once a week for a half an hour to teach your children. They are police vetted and work to CEC’s code of expectation and teach from an approved health or social sciences curriculum. The values covered are inquiry, curiosity, respect, integrity, participation and equity. (See page 10 NZ Curriculum). The key competencies covered are thinking, managing self, relating to others, participating and contributing. (see page 12 & 13 NZ Curriculum). The school approves the teaching material. An outline is available from the school office. Each session begins with a learning intention, a story from the bible or an account of a biographical role model, singing, memory verse and a game. The team welcomes a visit by parents at any session.
